CANADA EMERGENCY RESPONSE BENEFIT (CERB)
• For individuals who are unable to work as a result of COVID-19
• Unable to work, laid off, sick or staying home to care for children or someone sick
• Taxable benefit of $2,000 for a 4 week period or $500 a week
• Program will last 16 weeks
• Applications are being accepted beginning April 6th
• Prior to April 6th, if without work and eligible for EI, apply for EI benefits at the link below
• CERB applications are to be submitted online through the CRA My Account
• Also, a toll-free number [ 1-800-959-2019 ] will be made available for those without internet
• The following link answers questions about CRA My Account and the toll-free number process, important to review prior to April 6th to avoid delays in the enrollment process
ELIGIBILITY FOR CERB
• Reside in Canada
• At least 15 years old
• Stopped working due to COVID-19 or eligible for EI regular or sickness benefits
• Earned at least $5,000 in 2019 or past 12 months
• Without employment or self-employment income for at least 14 consecutive days in the initial 4 week period, starting March 15
• To be entitled to further benefits, they expect no employment / self-employment income
